Lower School

Parents of students in Year 7 & 8 should feel free to contact their child’s Registration Tutor by telephone at any time. Please make an appointment with the School Office if you would like to meet with a member of staff.

In September our Year 7 & 8 students are placed in tutor groups based on academic ability. All Year 7 & 8 students follow a core timetable and are taught in their tutor groups. The subjects studied in Years 7 & 8 are:

English, Mathematics, History, Geography, French, Religious Education, ICT,
Science, Art, Music, Dance, Drama, Design Technology, PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health & Citizenship Education) and PE.

We try to ensure that our programmes of work are suitable to the needs of each student. Some students will have their courses supplemented or enhanced following identification by the Learning Support Department. The work of this department covers students from the whole ability range. The majority of their lessons will be taught in a reserved area of the school. In addition they will enjoy the safety of an enclosed yard area and will be served at break time in the year groups foyer area.

Transition Day

All students joining Year 7 in September 2007 will have the opportunity to spend a day in school on Friday 6th July. They will be able to meet their Form Tutor, some of our teachers and other students, whilst experiencing the school routine and learning their way around the school site.

Homework and School Planners

Pupils are set homework on a regular basis. You will receive a copy of your child's homework timetable during September and we ask for your co-operation and support regarding the completion of homework. If homework appears to be either excessive or insufficient we would be grateful if you could inform your child's Head of Year. Places are available for students to complete their homework at lunchtime and in after school homework clubs.
