What is Resistant Materials?
This option is concerned with designing and producing three dimensional products in wood, metal and plastic, and or modelling materials. You will develop an awareness of how products are manufactured in industry
What do I need to be successful if I choose this course?
Skills:
- You will need to have good practical skills.
- Good ICT skills are required
Interests:
- Being interested in “how things work”.
- Being interested in developing new solutions to current problems.

What will I study?
During year 10 students are involved in a series of mini projects which cover several technological activities and use a variety of materials. These include the main material areas of, WOOD, METAL and PLASTIC. Aspects of design presentation have also been covered. Knowledge and concepts gained in year 10 provide the foundation for GCSE coursework, which will begin in the summer term.
How will I be assessed?
During Year 10 students are assessed at the end of each mini projects. The work is assessed in accordance to the AQA GCSE marking scheme. In Year 11, pupils will produce a design portfolio (20%), a final practical product (40%) and an exam (40%)

This course can help those who are considering furniture/product design, architecture, engineering, 3D design and teaching
