Departmental Aims and objectives:

Aims:

  • To stimulate interest, enjoyment and curiosity and concern about technological aspects of the environment.
  • To understand the role of Technology as a critical factor in human, social, economical, cultural environment well-being and development.
  • To enable students to perceive Technology aspects of a wider body of knowledge & skills, eg to be able to work both independently and co-operatively.
  • To enable students to develop a range of personal qualities such as safety awareness, politeness, perseverance, initiative and independence.

Objectives:

  • To prepare students to participate in tomorrows rapidly changing technologies. To learn to think and intervene creatively to improve quality of life.
  • For students to become autonomous and creative problem solvers, as individuals and member of a team.
  • To look for needs, wants and opportunities and respond to them by developing a range of ideas and making products.
  • To develop ability to generate ideas for designs in response to a range of real or realistic technological problems. Students should explore, develop, clarify and communicate these ideas by a variety of constructional and graphic means, with and without the aid of a computer.
  • To become discriminating and informal users of products and become innovators.
  • To produce a range of products using fabric in a variety of forms and styles using different tools, equipment, techniques and processes.

 

Other Information

All students at Key Stage 3 (years 7-9) have the opportunity to work in Textiles as part of a rotational timetable which includes Resistant Materials, Graphics, Electronics and Food.

At Key Stage 4, Textiles is an option subject which leads to a GCSE qualification. Emphasis is placed on the practical element and students are encouraged to work to their full potential. Students are encouraged to undertake increasing responsibilities for their own learning and clearly demonstrate that progress has been made.
