Departmental Aims and Objectives:

We aim to furnish every student with the literacy skills which will equip them for the future, in the world of work, further study and throughout life in general. More than this, however, we desire that our students become avid readers, and that they can write thoughtfully and accurately for a variety of purposes, both formal and creative. We believe that good reading generates good thinking, and that good thinking allows people to question the nature of texts that are presented to them in newspapers, on television and so on, not just in books. This is why we place as much emphasis on building speaking and listening skills as well as reading and writing in English.
