Mathematics KS4 - EdExcel
Description
Why we teach Mathematics at The Ridings School
Mathematics gives students a well equipped toolbox to aid them in understanding and changing the world.
The tools include logical reasoning, problem – solving skills, and the ability to think in abstract ways.
Mathematics is important in everyday life, many forms of employment, science and technology, medicine, the economy, the environment and development, and in public – decision making.
Mathematics is not just a collection of skills, it is a way of thinking. It lies at the core of scientific understanding and of rational and logical argument. It is a global language with which we convey ideas to each other that words can’t handle.
GCSE is taught at Foundation and Higher levels, giving pupils the opportunity of the full range of grades that are available.
Pupils sit the GCSE exam in year 10, some re-sit in November of year 11. All pupils get the opportunity to sit the exam at the end of their year 11.
Year 11 students can also practice for their online tests in Adult Literacy and Adult Numeracy. (ALAN) If they pass this they gain another qualification.
